Three years ago Indian army suffered the biggest loss in the past two decades in Jammu and Kashmir. In the early hours on this day in 2016 four heavily armed terrorists crossed Line of Control (LoC), trekked for about 6 kilometers breached a heavily guarded military camp in Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir and launched a massive grenade attack.
The target – temporary fuel depot storage of 100 litres of petrol, diesel and kerosene was chosen for inflammatory potential. Adjacent to the fuel depot where soldier’s tent were 5 Bihar soldiers were sleeping.
The grenade attack, compounded by massive explosion at the fuel depot, gutted the tents. Investigation of Uri terror attack later revealed that 4 terrorists were carrying AK- 47 rifles that had grenade launchers clipped under barrels.
