On 31st August, Crystal Palace won by 1-0 against Aston Villa at Selhurst Park. The controversy began when Kevin Friend, the referee, disapproved Henri Lansbury’s last-minute Goal as he thought that the Aston Villa captain Grealish dived in the build-up.
In the 96th minute, Grealish crashed to the ground as he charged towards the Crystal Palace’s box. His pass reached to Lansbury who scored a goal to level the scoring. But the referee controversially ruled out the goal and booked the Villa captain for diving.
Jack Grealish was fuming at Friend. He attempted to protest the decision and failed to keep his cool. Fans on social media became furious and called his decision as “Absolutely ridiculous call.” One said: “Kevin Friend needs sacking. Spent the whole game on Palace’s side and yet again PL refs incorrectly booking Grealish for a dive that never existed.”
