England’s leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson will play no further part in the Ashes against Australia after a recurrence of a calf injury.
Anderson, who has been recuperating from a calf injury that he picked up in the first Ashes Test, bowled 20 overs on Tuesday for Lancashire XI’s friendly game against Durham. But a the right calf pain forced him to be withdrawn from the remainder of the game.
England must win the series to regain the Ashes, while Australia, need only a series draw to retain the Ashes Trophy.
The 4 th match at Old Trafford, Manchester starts on 4 September, with the five-Test series level at 1-1.
