Every year on 14 September, the nation gears up to celebrate Hindi Diwas, which marks the significance of the day when the Constituent Assembly after Independence adopted Hindi as the official language of India. Written in the Devanagri script, Hindi is one of the 22 scheduled languages spoken in the country and one of the official languages of the Union Government. The other is the English language. According to Ethnologue, Hindi is the fourth most-spoken language in the world.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 14 said the Hindi language has beautifully incorporated simplicity, spontaneity, and elegance that provide meaningfulness to expression. Greeting people on the occasion of ‘Hindi Divas’, the prime minister tweeted in Hindi, “The simplicity, spontaneity, and elegance of a language provide meaningfulness to expression. Hindi has incorporated all of these aspects beautifully”.
