Mahendra Singh Dhoni isn’t in the team for the T20I series against South Africa but Hardik Pandya returns as the only change in the squad. Hardik faced some lower back issues and so was rested for the T20 series against West Indies. Now that he is all fit and fine, the 25-year-old all-rounder returned to game replacing Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
The former Indian skipper took a “self-imposed break” which officially ends on the 21st of September, not clearly known if the selectors had any discussion with Dhoni about his availability for the upcoming home series. A senior BCCI member told PTI, “This selection committee is clear on one front. They will never ask any questions to Dhoni with regards to retirement as that’s not their domain. But till they are in charge, they reserve the right to select the squad and as far as they are concerned, Rishabh Pant is now India’s first-choice keeper across formats”.
The 3-day International T20 series against South Africa is scheduled on September 15 (Dharamshala), September 18 (Mohali) and September 22 (Bengaluru).
