The prices of onions are soaring up in most of the metro cities , in fact they have reached Rs.80/kg at some places. Onions have seen an upward trend of price hike and they have been sold around 75-80 Rs Per kg in Mumbai & Delhi . In Bangalore and Hyderabad the prices have reached 60/kg.
Reasons for hiked price of onions is due to the severe monsoons that damaged the crops , this situation is to last for a month or so.
An onion trader in Nasik Hiraman Pradeshi , the hub for onion production told that, due to the loss of onion crops the farmer has thrown away the crops on the road for the last two years. And now the farmer claims that the price hike is the compensation for three year loss. Over this Hiraman Pradeshi claims that when there was loss in the onion crops nor the government neither the customers raised any questions, now that the prices are hiked everyone tends to blame the farmers.
