Pollard named West Indies’s ODI and T20I captainWest Indies have appointed veteran Kieron Pollard as their new captain of the limited-overs squads, Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt announced in a press conference in Trinidad on Monday.
Pollard, who last played an ODI match against Pakistan for West Indies back in October 2016, will replace Jason Holder in 50-over format, while the latter will continue as Test cricket captain. In T20Is, Pollard takes over Carlos Brathwaite’s management position.
“He’s a very significant force and will still be our captain of red-ball,” said Holder’s Skerritt. “Holder will now compete for a spot in Pollard’s squad and use this as an chance to become a better cricketer. Pollard is the correct guy to bring our white-ball teams forward at the correct moment.”
“We want our players to play in world leagues to strengthen their game in different conditions. They will not have to sacrifice CPL and IPL to play for the West Indies, both can coexist with mutual benefits,” Skerritt noted.
