The Jawaharlal Nehru University admin has asked historian Romila Thapar to submit her curriculum vitae, criticizing the move the Congress MP Shashi Tharoor slammed the Jawaharlal Nehru University administration and said the new management body does not understand the first thing about education. “Clearly, the new regime in JNU doesn’t understand this. They don’t even understand the value of having such an illustrious figure associated with them,” said the disappointed MP. “The new people running this place don’t understand the first thing about education,” he added. Mr. Tharoor feels the status of professor emeritus is given by universities to honor themselves. He is of opinion that it’s not just insulting to Thapar, it’s a betrayal of very traditions of education.
After being slammed for seeking Romila Thapar’s CV, the JNU administration responded to criticisms and clarified in a statement that the varsity had apparently written a letter to her to know if the professor emeritus was willing and available to offer her services and not asked to discontinue her association with the university.
