The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has officially come into existence. And, underlining formalisation of the same, the Union Home Ministry has released a brand new map showing how the new India’s Political map would look after stripping the ‘state’ status of J&K.
In what came as a surprising yet widely appreciated decision, the Narendra Modi led government had taken some serious steps in August this year, that included abrogation of article 370, stripping the special status of Jammu and Kashmir which used to render the government incapable of establishing normal rules and regulations in the area. Also, the same bill that abrogate article 370 divided J&K into two regions- Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. Further, it declared these two regions Union Territories.
Jammu & Kashmir will no longer be in the state list, while there will be 2 new addition to the list of India’s Union Territories. While there were 7 UTs earlier, which were Delhi, Daman & Diu, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry, India now have 9 Union Territories to list.
Dilbagh Singh remains as the DG of J&K while Ladhak is to have police force under an IG level officer.
